DFWAPPA Annual Meeting Minutes

Meeting Location:  Tarrant County College – Trinity River East Campus, Fort Worth, Texas

 

2:00-2:30 pm Registration- Meet and Greet

 

2:55 pm Meeting called to order and welcome given to members by Shelton Riley, of Texas Christian University.

 

Introductions:

Shelton Riley welcomed meeting attendees and recognized new business partners and new facilities members.

Current Board members were introduced: Past President Ward Sheeder; President Shelton Riley, Vice President Rod Moran; Secretary Gail Henderson; Treasurer Sallie Spotanski; Sr. Board Member Michael Brantley; Jr. Board Member Hollis Dyer. Web Master  Dee Littlejohn

 

Door prizes were handed out

 

3:00-3:25 pm Technical Presentation

The Technical presentation was given by Jody Flowers of ASSA ABLOY, Building Information Model (B.I.M.).

3:30-4:00pm Tour: Chad Crocker led a tour of the Trinity River East Campus

Secretary’s Report

Copies of previous annual meeting minutes dated 5-17-2012 were provided for members to         review. The Secretary had nothing else to report. Dee Littlejohn made a motion to accept the Secretary’s report; Ron Tarbutton seconded the motion. Minutes approved by the general membership. The 2012 Annual Meeting Minutes will be posted on DFWAPPA web site.

Vice President’s Report

Rod Moran reported the August 8, 2013 DFWAPPA Quarterly Meeting will be held at the University of North Texas – Denton. Schneider Electric will sponsor the meeting and give the Technical Presentation. There are still sponsorships available for future 2014 meetings.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Copies of the Treasury Report were provided for members to review. Sallie reported the balance in the main DFWAPPA account as of 4-30-2103 is $28,644.42 and the Scholarship Fund account as of 4-30-2013 is $2,993.23. There will be four $500 scholarships awarded at today’s meeting. Ward Sheeder made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and Rod Moran seconded; treasurer’s report was approved by the general membership.

 

 

 

Special Committee  Report

Copies of the Bylaws were provided for members to review. Rod Moran reported proposed changes to the DFWAPPA Bylaws. Proposed changes include the following:

 

Article V, Section C – Election and Change of Officers. 4.

The Treasurer shall serve a five-year term and may be re-elected. The Treasurer must notify the Board at the beginning of the fourth year if they desire to be re-elected.

 

Article XI, Section D – Scholarships. 2.

a. Institution must be a DFWAPPA member and have been represented in at least two meetings during the year beginning with the Annual Meeting.

b. An institution representative must be present at the Annual Meeting in order to receive a scholarship.

 

A motion to accept the proposed bylaw changes was made by Art Sykes, the motion was seconded. The proposed bylaw changes were approved by the general membership.

 

 

Additional Report

Ron Tarbutton reported that the 2013 DFWAPPA Golf Tournament had 89 golfers and raised approximately $10,000, with half of the proceeds to be earmarked for future DFWAPPA Education Scholarships. Thanks to all the Business Partners who make the tournament possible. Ward Sheeder will be the 2014 tournament director.

 

 

Scholarships

Half of net proceeds from fund raising events such as the DFWAPPA golf tournament go to the DFWAPPA Scholarship Fund. Business Partner donations are also a source of scholarship    funds.  

Four educational scholarships were awarded and the following members each received a $500 scholarship:

                Gail Henderson – University of North Texas

                Shelton Riley - TCU

                Rod Moran – University of North Texas

                Dick Milan – University of North Texas

 

President Report

Awards

Shelton Riley recognized two people for their outstanding support and contribution to the DFWAPPA organization throughout the year.

The 2013 Presidential Awards were presented to:

Facilities Member Sallie Spotanski, UNT Health Science Center

Business Partner Bruce McNabb, Tandus Flooring

 

Announcements

Business Partner dues for the coming year have been increased from $175 to $200.

 

 

Election of New Board Members

Ward Sheeded, Nomination Committee Chairman, read the board nominee for Jr. Board Member, Chad Crocker, Tarrant County College District, and the floor was opened for additional nominations from the general membership.  No other nominations were given. The general membership unanimously voted for Chad Crocker as the new Jr. Board Member.

 

The 2013-2014 board members are:

President Rod Moran, Vice President Michael Brantley, Secretary Gail Henderson, Treasurer Sallie Spotanski, Senior Board member Hollis Dyer,  Junior Board member Chad Crocker, Web Master Dee Littlejohn, and Past President Shelton Riley.

The new Board members were formally installed with an oath of office.

 

Final Announcements

Shelton thanked the meeting sponsor ASSA ABLOY, for sponsoring the Registration, Dinner and the Technical Presentation.

The next DFWAPPA Quarterly Meeting will be held at UNT-Denton, August 8, 2013, and will be sponsored by Schneider Electric.

APPA 2013 Conference scheduled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 1-4, 2013.

CAPPA 2013 will be held in Galveston, TX, September 28-October 2, 2013. Registration is available on the CAPPA website.

TAPPA 2014 will be hosted by EL Paso Community College, in El Paso, TX, April 12th-15th, 2014. Gloria Fuller has Business Partner sponsor packets available.

 

Recognition of Outgoing President and Incoming President

Shelton Riley was recognized for his contributions and presented a gift card and an award thanking him for his leadership of DFWAPPA in 2012-2013.

Shelton ceremoniously handed over the DFWAPPA gavel to incoming President Rod Moran.

 

Dee Littlejohn made a motion to adjourn and was seconded by Gail Henderson

 

Meeting adjourned at 4:30p.m.

Dinner was served.
